Description:
Join us for the Second Annual Monterey Grain Festival, a free, family-friendly weekend celebrating community, local food, and hands-on learning! Supported in part by a grant from the Monterey Cultural Council (a local agency supported by the Mass Cultural Council).
Saturday, October 10:
• 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Bread Camp: Hands-on sourdough workshop led by Trevor Hurst. Learn sourdough fundamentals and shape loaves for Sunday’s bake. Limited spots available!
• 5:00 PM | “Liquid Bread” Presentation & Tasting: Master brewer Sarah Real of Hot Plate Brewing presents a talk and guided tasting on the science of beer, featuring a limited-edition “Bidwell’s Brew” made with local grain. (RSVP required; suggested $10 donation at the door; pours available for purchase after).
• 5:00 PM Onward | Focaccia & Bonfire: Sarah North of Found Bread will bake fresh focaccia by the slice. Free stick-bread dough will also be available for kids and DIYers to roast over the bonfire!
Sunday, October 11:
• 11:30 AM | Butter Aerobics & Communal Bake: Led by Kevin West, shake up fresh cream into butter just in time to spread on hot sourdough loaves fresh out of the oven at 12:00 PM! (Free, RSVP required).
• 1:00 PM | Brewer’s Stewers Potluck Lunch: Bring a homemade stew to share! Local judges will sample the entries and award the Silver Ladle Award at 2:00 PM. Afternoon kids’ games and seasonal fun to follow.
